(New York/Toronto) – November 9, 2014) – I AM NOT A ROCK STAR, the intimate portrait of child prodigy, classical music pianist Marika Bournaki, will be released in the U.S. on December 2, 2014 on iTunes, Amazon, Dish Television, Google Play, VOD, and other streaming platforms.
The award-winning documentary, directed by Bobbi Jo Hart, has played at festivals around the world – from Thessaloniki, Greece to Palm Springs, Vancouver to Krakow. The coming-of-age documentary follows Marika Bournaki, on the road to becoming a concert pianist, from the ages of twelve through twenty. While the film is centered on the life of the ‘next Glenn Gould’, the documentary unfolds into a very intimate family portrait, as the focus on one sibling outweighs all other family members.
“I saw the premiere of the film in Toronto and was engrossed by Marika’s talent and ascent on the world stage as an up-and-coming concert pianist – from her child concerts to her studies at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, I felt the camera and crew became an extended member of their family over a formative eight-year period, searing in a recorded and very public adolescence. A marvel of a documentary from Adobe Productions, we’re delighted have acquired the title for the U.S. and present Marika’s talent to a bigger stage internationally through VOD,” said Syndicado founder, Greg Rubidge.
The documentary feature was produced by Adobe Productions International (Robbie Hart) and directed by Montreal’s award-winning filmmaker Bobbi Jo Hart. ‘’The documentary took us on a remarkable 10-year journey, but this was no mistake. Our intention from the start was to witness the evolution of a so-called ‘prodigy’ from childhood to adulthood and to reveal the consequences of this journey.” “The film has been well-received around the world and nearly 20 countries have picked it up. We chose Syndicado based on their enthusiasm and interest in the film and their in-depth knowledge of the rapidly changing digital distribution market in the U.S., specifically on VOD” said Robbie Hart.
