on theatrical distribution for an upcoming slate of titles. Greg Rubidge, Syndicado founder and

CEO will lead these efforts to acquire more titles for theatrical as well as digital distribution, and

will continue to be based out of Toronto.

The first title to be released under the theatrical expansion is FAT starring Mel Rodriguez, which

played at the Toronto International Film Festival and received wide acclaim from critics and

audiences. The film was written and directed by Mark Phinney, and produced by Rodriguez and

Tim Baker.  Ashley Lauren, Jason Dugre, Charlene Amoia and Joanne Verbos round out the

cast. The film is scheduled for a US theatrical release on December 1st followed by a North

American VOD release December 15, 2015.

overweight man who won’t change his ways. Addicted to food, he’s is in bad health, and is

headed to an early grave. Despite getting help and advice from his friends and doctors, he does

what he wants, when he wants, until a chance encounter with love gives him the motivation he

needs to save himself.

Rodriguez is an actor and producer best known for recurring roles on “Last Man on Earth” and

“Better Call Saul.”  He can also be seen in the features THE WATCH and Oscar® winner

“Beyond theatrical playing out as a marketing tactic for VOD, we’ve found that there remains a

strong, engaged niche audience for independent/arthouse films on the big screen.” says Greg

Rubidge, president of Syndicado. “With new staff focused on theatrical and regionally targeted

event based screenings, we’re expanding the number of venues we work with and the number of

films we’ll acquire all rights for in North America.”

Founded by Rubidge in 2009, Syndicado helps small to medium sized film and TV distributors,

sales agents and producers realize new revenue growth from VOD through its partnerships with

the industry’s key VOD and SVOD outlets.  From its inception six years ago, the company’s

library has grown to over 500 titles with over 1500 hours of programming, in 30+ territories

worldwide, with a focus primarily on documentaries and factual TV series.

The company initially tested the waters for theatrical distribution last year with ELENA, Petra

Costa’s haunting IDFA documentary which opened in the US in New York in 2014, followed by

two Canadian releases earlier this year; STOP THE POUNDING HEART, Roberto Minervini’s

Texas docudrama, and Fantastic Fest favorite THE RESURRECTION OF A BASTARD, based

on the graphic novel by Guido van Driel.

Additional slate titles will be announced shortly.
