Pulp Fiction: The Golden Age Of Storytelling ()
Documentary
Pulp Fiction profiles a fantastic avenue of escapism for people of the 20s, 30s, and 40s, who wanted to escape the mundane routine of their daily life in the grips of the depression between the two World Wars, by buying cheap fiction magazines. These writers of the golden age of fiction writing shaped American culture, and they created the iconic characters who live on today in our collective hearts and imaginations. It has even been estimated that 90-95% of the top blockbusters in Hollywood movies, were based on the stories from the Pulp Fiction-era. There were several top experts in this field that were interviewed here. Two very rare interviews were of the super-heavyweight grand masters from that era, Ray Bradbury and Fred Pohl, who revealed the hardship and suffering that many of the writers experienced, on their way to fame and glory. Also interviewed are two of the biggest publishers of reprinted books from that era, John Goodwin of Galaxy Press and John Gunnison of Adventure House, as well as Otto Penzler of Mysterious Books who edited several pulp era stories into compendious books. Tim Powers and Kenneth Anderson, who were also interviewed, are present-day, award winning writers who were influenced by the writing style of those writers of the golden age.
